Collected postings from the front.

Mainly about stuff I do, photos I find or take, writings, some video as well as a bit of randomness and the occasional plug for something I dig.

Currently working on a variety of projects and attempting to keep myself from being distracted. I play shows, but rarely. Occasionally make records or do improvised performances as part of I/O3. In another life I was part of groups Not From There and Nightstick.

If you want to burden yourself with my 140 character long observations, try twitter, failing that you may visit the shrine over at Facebook. To hear or buy the latest sounds I've made just head over to the bandcamp site. For what it's worth - there is also heinzriegler.com.

At Cafe Oto last Thursday night. Debut of Lawrence English’s Lonely Women’s Club. Was a great night. Nicola Ratti from Milano opened the evenings procedure with a wonderful set, and Tony Conrad blew the roof of the place in the end. Inspiring. Pictures taken from Cafe Oto’s Flickr.

My dear friend Lawrence English has a new record out - clear vinyl pre-sales here.

Just stumbled upon this clip from last years London Open Frame Festival, where as part of I/O3, I was lucky to be doing a collaboration with Scanner and David Toop. The five of us had played together once about 10 years earlier and Room40 released a record of that performance titled A Picturesque View, Ignored. I’m pretty sure it’s sold out by now, but for what it’s worth, here’s the Pitchfork review. So this London show was really was a re-union of kinds, although sadly we didn’t perform any of our hits. Also note how I pretty much do nothing at all during the duration of this clip. I am very, very minimal.

Ps: Room40 has recently done a 10 year anniversary sampler that is free to download here. (It includes an edit from said performance as well as all kinds of really fantastic sounds from Chris Abrahams, Grouper, Xiu Xiu and many more)

LPE in action at Open Frame festival, London. It was really quite something to hear his current set. There were lots of wonderful sounds over the two days, and lots of great friends, old and new. Thanks to all who made it happen, I was honored to be part of it. Now back in Austria, getting ready to do some work on new music.

Playing as part of I/O3, doing a set of improvisation with David Toop and Scanner. The only other time the five of us played together was sometime in early 2000 (?), it got recorded and released on the then fledgling Room 40 label. Pitchfork rated it, and for one reason or another, everyone’s in Europe for this years Room 40’s Open Frame Festival in London. November 4 and 5. Maybe see you there? Very much looking forward to this.

I/O3 live score to Alice in Wonderland - May 21

First outing for I/O3 (Lawrence English, Tam Patton, Heinz Riegler) in a couple of years… we’re doing a live score to W.W. Young’s 1915 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. It’s happening at Tribal Theatre on Friday May 21st. Should be a fun evening. Maybe see you there… here’s the Facebook Event page.
